Welcome to the personal newsletter of Joel Fariss.

This newsletter and my personal podcast are dedicated to exploring ideas I find compelling, with my community (you, if you are reading this.) This newsletter also serves as a means to update my community regarding speaking, events, and other engagements.

My experiences and interests are too diverse to succinctly summarize, but generally I’m a student of human behavior. In my endeavor to understand any given phenomenon, I borrow from a wide array of toolboxes (design, anthropology, philosophy, business, etc). In other words, I'm interested in the opportunities that sit at the intersection of disciplines and in the forces that drive human behavior. At Gensler, I lead the Applied Research & Strategic Futures team; we partner with visionary leaders to deconstruct stagnating complexity and design preferable futures during times of transformation. As a transdisciplinary team of researchers, strategists, and designers we leverage insights and methodologies from diverse domains of knowledge across the humanities and sciences to conceive, incubate, and scale ideas that create corporate, communal, ecological, and social value.

My newsletter and podcast generally resonate with people are interested in:

Exploring the liminal spaces of design, human experience, and meaning. Championing organizational poetics and dynamism. Thinking about beautiful questions, epistemologies of creativity, and transempirical ways of knowing. Integrating the domains, disciplines, and dreams of the human imagination. Riding the wave of the chaosmos and collecting dense words. Eliciting enterprise epiphany and leaning into corporate heterodoxy.
